According to an official report of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Thai-Chinese cooperation, particularly in tourism, infrastructure and sustainable urban development.
The high-level meeting was attended by senior local officials, including Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum and Tourist Police Division 3 Superintendent Pol Col Naraphon Wattanagornthawi, along with representatives from Phuket Immigration, the Phuket Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office (TAT Phuket)..
During the talks, Mr Wang praised Phuket’s role as a key driver of Thailand’s tourism sector and highlighted China’s willingness to support projects in areas where it holds expertise, such as infrastructure development and tunnel construction.
Governor Sophon welcomed the Consul General’s remarks and expressed appreciation for China’s continued support. He emphasised Phuket’s priority on tourist safety and extended a warm invitation to more Chinese visitors to explore the island.
A central topic of discussion was the promotion of ‘Phuket as a Low Carbon City’. Both sides explored practical initiatives, including encouraging the use of electric motorcycles and implementing environmentally friendly urban planning strategies to help reduce carbon emissions.
The Governor also acknowledged the longstanding and close relationship between Thailand and China, expressing hope for deeper cooperation across various sectors ‒ including tourism, the economy and urban development ‒ to ensure mutual, sustainable benefits for both nations.
The visit underscored growing efforts to align tourism growth with environmental sustainability as Phuket positions itself as a model green destination, concluded the official report.
