The ‘Alive Beach On Cloud Songkran Music Festival’ has been confirmed to take place at the Blue Tree complex in Cherng Talay over the weekend of Apr 13-15, while a merit-making ceremony and water festival will be taking place in Rawai on Saturday, Apr 13.

A press conference was held yesterday at the Mixxmall in Rawai to annouce both events, overseen by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat who was joined by: Pichaiyut Singhasami, Phuket Provincial Culture Officer; Pol. Lt. Col. Tharakorn Pikulkaew, Deputy Superintendent of Phuket Immigration; Lertchai Wangtrakuldee, Director of the Phuket office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT); Aroon Solos, Mayor of Rawai; Thanakorn Prateepsaensuk, Managing Director, Superdots Events; Suwimon Cheewpitakphon, Marketing Manager, Superdots Events; Thithiti Thanomsak, PR Manager at Blue Tree Phuket; and Surat Kanthanakit, Manager of Phuket Nine Co., Ltd; Sophon Khiamkarn, Phuket Provincial Public Relations Officer; as well as more than 70 members of the media.

Mr Thanakorn explained how the two-day music festival at Blue Tree will largely take place at the water park, one of the major attractions at the leisure and entertainment complex, and it is ready to welcome local vistors and tourists from all over the world to celebrate the occasion.

There will be a range of world-renowned Thai and foreign DJs performing across the two days, Mr Thanakorn added, including Oui Buddhabless x Naina x Tossakan, Prom+, Pokmindset, Nicecnx, Wonderframe, Bonnadol and many more who will ensure the fun keeps rolling.

The area will be split into three large separate zones and six sub-zones, Mr Thanakorn explained, including the “Cloud Zone” which will incorporate the stage for DJs and musical acts in one zone as well as a market village zone where a variety of shops selling food and beverage, handicrafts and lifestyle and activities products will be present.

Similarly, there will be the “Cloud Forest” zone, a green area for nature lovers, where activities such as ceramic painting and pearl stringing will be available as well as natural tie-dye and cannabis-related products, and the “Beach Zone” where a bubble beach stage in the centre of the pool at the water park will host a party with a specific private area for VIPs.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event although those under the age of 20 will be limited to certain zones at the site, organisers confirmed.

Getting wet in Rawai

Meanwhile, government officials in Rawai are working in collaboration with private sector company Phuket Nine to ensure their Songkran celebrations are a success.

A focus on Thai culture specific to the occasion of Songkran will be a major focus of celebrations, Mr Solos explained, with a merit-making ceremony by giving alms to monks, elders’ head-watering and a sea turtle conservation project just three of the activities scheduled for the morning of Apr 13.

There will also be a procession to bathe the Buddha image statue in front of Mixxmall before the afternoon sees the Rawayana water festival starting at 1pm.

The artist Ken Phuphum and a variety of well known DJs will be on hand to entertain the crowd throughout the water fun from 1pm until 8pm in the area outside the Mixmall venue.

Mayor Solos said it will be a fun-filled occasion that local residents and tourists alike are more than welcome to attend.

Mr Surat from Phuket Nine Company explained that rice and dried food collected from the merit-making ceremony will be then distributed as survival bags to impoverished communities in various parts of Phuket.

Furthermore, there will be promotional events in future to continue raising funds and donations for the needy, organised by his company, Mr Surat said, including the Pha Pa Merit Ceremony on May 12 at Charoensomnakit Temple (Lang San Temple), an event showcasing local art at the Phuket 9 venue at Mixxmall with artist Longan Hai Thongkham on Jun 19, and a mini-marathon in July, with the specific date yet to be confirmed.
