The incident occurred around midday on Friday (Apr 26) when the unnamed man parked his bike outside the Kasikorn Bank on Phang Nga Road in Phuket Town in an illegal space, prompting traffic police to impose a wheel lock and chain on his vehicle.

An eye witness who took pictures of the incident explained in a social media post that on discovering his bike had been restrained, the caucasian man shook the lock in an attempt to unlock it.

However, following his unsucessful efforts to do so, the man then disappeared along Phang Nga Rd before returning around five minutes later.

The eye witness believed the man had gone to the police station to pay the fine in order for his bike to be released only to see he was infact carrying a pair of bolt cutters that he then used to cut the chain holding the wheel lock in place.

To exacerbate the bizarre situation the foreign man then turned to the eye witness and gestured with his index finger to his lips in the manner of a “hush” sign before riding off on his bike.

A sizeable furore met the news once the eye witness had posted the incident on social media, with many netizens angry at the foreign man’s actions. Several posters questioned why the man did not just pay the fine which would have cost less than puchasing a pair of bolt cutters, assuming he had bought them, of course.

So far there are no details on the offending foreign man, such as his name, nationality, age or motive for his actions.

However, Pol. Col. Prathueng Phonmana from Phuket Town Police Station confirmed that he has ordered an investigation team to study CCTV footage of the incident and liaise with the traffic police involved in the hope of identifying the foreign man so as to prosecute him as quickly as possible.
