The “Walk-Run for Our Students” event will take place on Sunday, Mar 23 at Phuket Wittayalai School, with a 5:30am start and all proceeds going towards helping fund scholarships to enable selected students to further their education.

The race is open to alumni and current students of the school as well as the general public and will be categorised as follows:

- A 3.5 kilometre Fun Run. Entry fees: 350 general public; B200 Phuket Wittayalai School students; B299 Students from other institutions.

- A 10.5km Mini Marathon. Entry fee B400.

- A VIP class where participants can race either distance and will receive an exclusive shirt and a commemorative medal. Entry fee: B1,000.

Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each race class as well as cash prizes as follows: B2,000 to first place; B1,000 to second place; and B500 to third place.

Komkrit Thongtan, Chairman The Phuket Wittayalai Alumni Foundation, oversaw a press conference last Saturday (Mar 8) and was joined by: Phisit Laklaem, Chairman of the Walk-Run for Our Students event; Sophon Udomthap, Vice Chairman of the Foundation; Thaweechai Harichanthanawong, Foundation Treasurer; and Nikorn Thirachamorn, Honorary Advisor and former Director of Phuket Wittayalai School.

Mr Komkrit Thongtan explained that since 1990 scholarships worth B5,000 had been distributed to 25 students from Phuket Wittayalai School per year, in addition to providing educational guidance to Mathayom 6 students to prepare them for higher education.

Furthermore, the foundation had previously provided selected scholarships worth B600,000 to 13 selected students who studied to be teachers before returning to Phuket Wittayalai School to teach. This initiative had been discontinued, Mr Phisit explained, which is why it is hoped the charity event can help raise funds to relaunch it.
