UPDATE: Phuket MP Chalermpong Sangdee reported that the black Honda Civic was parked beside the road and was struck from behind by a vehicle driven at speed by a Russian national.
No people were injured in the accident, Mr Chalermpong noted, but Chalong Police have yet to report any action regarding the collision.
The car, a black Honda Civic, slammed into a power pole in Baan Saiyuan at about 3am, the local resident told The Phuket News.
The impact toppled the power pole, which in turn pulled down eight other power poles, plunging the area into a power outage.
Power was restored to the area by about 8am, the local resident said.
“By far too fast a driver,” the local resident noted.
“As far as we know, the driver was unhurt,” he added.
Traffic in both directions along Saiyuan Rd was affected around the intersection with Soi Samakee 2.
The local resident advised motorists to avoid the area, and use Soi Mangosteen as a route around the affected site.
