The Phuket Highways Office has already announced its plans for repair works scheduled to commence over the upcoming weekend. Repair efforts are anticipated to last between four to five days, and will require the underpass to be closed to traffic while the repairs are carried out.
The damage caused by the theft, described as “extensive damage to the electrical infrastructure”, significantly impairs driving visibility through the underpass and poses a heightened risk of accidents, said an official report of the theft.
Urging the public’s cooperation, local authorities have appealed for any information regarding the perpetrators behind the brazen theft.
Concerned citizens were encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Department of Highways hotline 1586 or the Phuket Highways Office at 076-212179.
