Police were called to the home, in Baan Ao Por, at around 5:05am yesterday (Dec 24).
The 29-year-old husband, Aphisit ‘Faris’ Thotthing, from Phang Nga, was taken into custody at the scene.
According to police, Aphisit admitted to physically assaulting his wife, 43-year-old Wena Martmak, originally from Phattalung, during a heated argument.
He strangled her and struck her head on the floor until she was unresponsive. After realising she was motionless, Aphisit contacted emergency services at the Naresuan Andaman Center.
Thalang Police patrol officers, joined by Deputy Chief of Investigation Pol Capt Kraisorn Boonprasop, responded to the scene.
Rescue teams and forensic specialists also arrived to find the body of Ms Wena lying on the kitchen floor wearing pink pajamas. Her body showed signs of bruising around the neck, and she was estimated to have been dead for about two hours.
Aphisit was taken to Thalang Police Station to face charges of murder while Ms Wena’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for post-mortem examination as part of standard police investigation procedure.
Neighbours and acquaintances described a strained relationship between the couple. According to a close friend, Ms Wena had recently confided her relief that Aphisit had left the home after an earlier dispute, only to return unexpectedly the day before she was murdered.
The couple had been together for years and shared a child, though tensions had reportedly escalated in recent times.
The friend, identified only as ‘Ja Joy’, recounted that Ms Wena had expressed concerns about Aphisit’s return. She suggested Ms Wena sleep elsewhere for her safety, but Ms Wina chose to remain in the house.
In their last conversation, Ms Wena mentioned financial arrangements involving her father and spoke of video calling her son before the fatal altercation.
