Police were notified of the incident at 12:30pm after guards at the beach attempted but were unable to revive the man, identified as Jason Mark Lambert, who had been holidaying in Phuket with his family since Nov 19. Mr Lambert had been staying at the Nipa Hotel in Patong.
According to the police report, Mr Lambert had entered the water with his wife at about 10am. Shortly afterwards, beach guards noticed he appeared to be in difficulty. They brought him ashore and administered first aid, but he was later pronounced dead.
Mr Lambert’s body was taken to Patong Hospital, where Dr Punthanika Chaithianthong conducted an autopsy in accordance with standard procedures, Patong Police reported.
Police noted that the family raised no concerns over the cause of death, and the body has been released to them for funeral arrangements.
No foul play is suspected. Officers have recorded the matter and will proceed with the standard administrative steps, the report by Patong Police concluded.
