The Phuket branch of Airports of Thailand (AoT Phuket), which operates Phuket International Airport, posted the announcement at 11:46am.
At about 9:30am, the airport’s Flight Control Center, operated by Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co Ltd, informed authorities that the pilot of Air India flight AI 379 had reported a bomb threat discovered during the flight, the announcement explained.
The aircraft, carrying 156 passengers, was immediately diverted back to Phuket for an emergency landing.
In response, the Airport Contingency Plan (ACP Chapter 3: Bomb Threat) was activated, mobilising emergency protocols and preparing all necessary safety and security measures, AoT Phuket confirmed.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the nature of the threat or the ongoing investigation.
Airport officials stated that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
