The victim, from South Africa who works at a private school on the island, filed a formal complaint with Thalang Police at about 10am yesterday (Aug 24). She told investigators that she had been attacked while being driven home after a night out with a friend in Cherng Talay.
According to her statement, the incident occurred after she and a colleague had dinner and drinks at a restaurant in Bang Tao on Saturday evening (Aug 23). After the restaurant closed just after midnight, the pair continued to another venue nearby.
At about 1am, the woman booked a Bolt car to return to her home in Pa Khlok. She recalled the vehicle as a white sedan, possibly bearing the licence plate number 3479 or 3974, though she was uncertain of the province.
After dropping off her friend in Baan Manik, Srisoonthorn, the driver continued towards Pa Khlok. However, on reaching Soi Somboonsap, the man allegedly pulled over, forced the woman out of the car and raped her in roadside bushes.
A passing motorist witnessed the incident and alerted police, prompting the suspect to flee. Officers from Thalang Police Station responded and found the victim at the scene. She initially declined to provide details, asking only to be taken safely home.
The following morning, the woman filed a complaint with Cherng Talay Police, who referred the case to Thalang Police as the assault took place in their jurisdiction.
Lt Col Kittipong Noopheng, the investigating officer at Thalang Police Station, confirmed the complaint is under investigation.
He said the victim has been referred to Thalang Hospital for a medical examination, and the case will be formally accepted upon receipt of the doctors’ report.
Police are now working to identify and locate the driver.
