Rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation launched a search for the grandmother, Yenjit Pae-Uai, after family members reported that they suspected she may have accidentally fallen into the canal earlier yesterday afternoon.
Her shoes were found on the canal bank, indicating a possible fall into the water.
More than 10 rescue personnel initially conducted a search, but strong currents hampered their efforts, and the operation was temporarily suspended. The search resumed today.
Personnel from the Kusoldharm dive team scoured the canal from the scene of the incident to the back of a nearby insurance company, opposite Phuket Wittayalai School.
The team eventually located the deceased at about 2:18pm and recovered her body, which was transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
The Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation extended their condolences to the victim’s family and expressed gratitude to all officers and volunteers who participated in the search.
