The inspections were led by Prawet Suphachai, Director of Regional Harbor Office 5, joined by Phuket Marine Office Chief Natchapong Pranit.
Mr Prawet pointed out that more than 5,000 people a day were travelling on the boats travelling to and from Ratsada Pier, which serves as Phuket’s key point of transiting to nearby islands, including Phi Phi.
The number of passengers on boats using the pier marked a 130% increase on the number of passengers last month, he said.
The aim of the inspections were to ensure that boat operators, captains and crews were abiding by marine safety requirements and to encourage staff to focus on safety during the New Year holidays.
Boat equipment and radio communication systems were inspected, as were the provision and availability of life jackets.
Mr Prawet noted that the inspections went well, with boat operators found complying with marine safety measures, said an official report of the inspections.
