Blood donation drive spotlights royal remembrances

PHUKET: The Phuket Regional Blood Centre (PRBC) has announced its October 2025 schedule for mobile blood donations across Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi, and are calling on Phuket residents to give blood throughout October in honour of two of Thailand’s most revered monarchs and to celebrate Taiwan’s National Day.

The Thai Red Cross Society and the PRBC announced that the month-long campaign is dedicated to commemorating the benevolence of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), whose royal duties brought immeasurable benefits to the Thai people.

Blood donations made during October will be treated as merit-making offerings in tribute to the two great kings.

At the same time, in celebration of Taiwan’s 114th National Day, the Thai-Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwanese business groups and the Phuket Red Cross are jointly hosting a special blood donation drive until Oct 10 at the PRBC centre near Saphan Hin. Donors during this period will receive either a commemorative T-shirt or a cooler cup, while those donating on Oct 8 will receive both items.

As always, Rh-negative blood, a rare type most commonly found among foreigners, remains in critically short supply as the majority of Thais have Rh-positive blood.

The continued rise in tourist-related accidents and medical emergencies is increasing demand for this uncommon blood type across the region.

Eligible donors are encouraged to give blood whenever they can.
