The closure is to allow workers to undertake repair work on the electrical lighting system inside the tunnel due to the recent theft of power lines.
Traffic will be denied access to the tunnel near the south end of Thepkrasattri Rd where it meets the bypass road from 8pm today until 5am tomorrow (May 26).
Officials extended apologies for any inconvenience caused by the disruption.
The incident follows a similar situation that occurred late last month when cable theft at the Phuket Airport underpass, at the turnoff to Phuket airport on Thepkrasattri Rd, left the underpass in darkness and caused other system failures in the area.
