Phuket Town Deputy Mayor Suphot La-ongphet, along with Pakorn Waraphasakul from the Phuket Provincial Public Works and Town & Country Planning Office, led a team to review the installation of drainage grates in Soi Phaniang yesterday (Mar 24).

The project, overseen by the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, is part of a broader flood prevention initiative with a total budget of B290 million.

Mr Suphot stated that the project has been effective in reducing flooding in the city, with no significant incidents reported during the recent rainy season.

He emphasised that the municipality will continue working to prevent future flooding, aiming to minimise disruptions for residents and tourists alike.

Meanwhile, Mr Pakorn noted that the second phase of the project, once fully implemented, is expected to further improve drainage in the area, with an added positive effect elsewhere throughout Phuket Town.

He expressed confidence that the initiative will significantly mitigate flooding issues and enhance the quality of life for Phuket Town’s residents.
