The body of the 69-year-old Australian man*, from Sydney, was discovered lying face down in the bathroom of his room at his hotel off Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd. Officers from Patong Police Station were alerted to the incident at around 10:30am.
According to police, the man had checked into the hotel on Monday (July 14) and was scheduled to check out on Aug 20.
The room was found locked from the inside, and there were no signs of forced entry, a struggle or property damage. He was found shirtless, wearing only shorts, and there were no indications of foul play.
The body was discovered after hotel staff were informed by a Thai woman who said she had been unable to contact the man for several days. The last time he was seen alive was on Wednesday (July 16), when he was spotted at the hotel swimming pool.
After receiving the concern, hotel staff requested a maid to use a spare key to enter the room, where they found the man unresponsive in the bathroom and immediately alerted the police.
Patong Police responded to the scene and confirmed the death. The body will be sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, police noted.
No suspects are being sought at this time, and authorities have not found any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
