In 2018, the Thailand Tigers are returning to Phuket to host the inaugural Phuket Masters AFL tournament, with the intention of establishing an annual tournament showcasing the best teams from across Asia.
This year’s tournament will feature masters teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. To qualify, players must be turning 35 years or older in 2018, with the rules of play slightly modified to accommodate for the wily veterans who will take to the field.
At the conclusion of the Masters tournament, there will be an open match with full AFL rules between the Thailand Tigers and Indonesian Volcanoes. The recently formed Indonesian Volcanoes are a result of the unification of the Bali Geckos and Jakarta Bintangs, and they will provide very strong opposition for the Tigers.
In their match back in 2017 in Bangkok, the Indonesian side proved too strong for the Tigers, who will be out for redemption in Phuket.
The day will also feature Auskick sessions for children who would like to experience AFL, and be led by experienced coaches, and the organisers would love to have any local or expat children from Phuket involved.
For those that would like to go along and spectate, entry is free and there will be food and drinks available.
AFL is a fast paced game full of excitement, and the tournament will feature some of the best Australian Rules Footballers from the region in what promises to be an exciting and entertaining day.
The event will be held at the Alan Cooke Ground on Saturday Mar 24.
