Wichit Police in its report yesterday (Mar 19) marked the arrest of US citizen American Mark Carey Urdang* for what they called “sexual offenses”.
Although the date and location of his arrest were not reported, Wichit Police explained that he was taken into custody at about 11:30pm on Monday (Mar 18) under Criminal Court arrest warrant No. 352/2567, which was issued on Jan 24.
The warrant marked Urdang was wanted for committing the crime “taking a person over fifteen years of age but not yet over eighteen years of age to engage in indecent acts, even if that person consents; taking a minor over fifteen years of age but not more than eighteen years away from parents and induce, encourage or allow children to perform or commit obscene acts.”
The charge is listed under Section 283 of the Criminal Code.
The arrests of no less than 24 foreigners were announced through separate notices posted online by Phuket Provincial Police yesterday (Mar 19).
Among those was the arrest of 38-year-old Chinese national Mr Tian Kai by Thalang Police at a villa at The Bay at Cape Yamu luxury residential estate in Moo 7, Pa Khlok, yesterday (Mar 19).
Officers took Mr Tian into custody in front of his villa at about 11:30am. He was wanted for 653 days overstay. He last entered the country on Jan 17, 2020.
An interpreter was provided for Mr Tian to understand the charges, and he was taken to Thalang Police Station “for further legal action”, police reported.
Phuket City Police arrested a Russian man for drunk driving his motorbike in the Phuket Old Town on Monday night.
The man, named by police only as ‘Mr Sergey’ was stopped near the intersection of Yaowarat and Dibuk Rd in the Phuket Old Town area at about 11:15pm as he appeared to be drunk.
He was taken to Phuket City Police Station, where he was confirmed to have BAC (blood-alcohol concentration) exceeding the legal limit, and was subsequently charged, police reported.
Australian citizen Volkan Chian, 31, was arrested on Rapathanusorn Rd in Patong after he was stopped driving a BMW 320D M Sport with Bangkok-registered red licence plates. The genuine ownership of the car was in question, police reported.
Mr Chian was taken to Patong Police Station “for further investigation according to law”, said the report.
Phuket Provincial Police arrested Myanmar national U Hla Aong, 49, on Monday for illegally staying in the country and “for working without a work permit or performing work not listed in the work permit or doing work other than what you have the right to do”.
He was arrested along the road near the entrance to Soi Cherng Talay - Baan Don 4, in Cherng Talay, and taken to Cherng Talay Police Station “to proceed with legal proceedings”.
In a single report, Kamala Police noted the arrest of five foreigners: Laos national Khamsing Somsamout, 36, arrested for overstay and for illegal possession of a Category 1 narcotic (crystal meth, or ‘ya ice’); Myanmar nationals Ms Khine Thazin, 25, and Mr Min Min Shwe, 32, both arrested for overstay; and Indian nationals Amreetansh Kumar, 39, Ved Prakash Pandey, 40, also both arrested for overstay. The dates and locations of their arrests were not reported.
Yemeni national ‘Mr Abdulwali’ (full name not reported), 38, was arrested arrest “near a convenience store” in Soi Saensabai, Patong, for performing work not listed in his work permit. The time and date of his arrest not reported
Also in Patong Indian national Manoj Kumar, 36, British national Myles Abel Newman, 26, and Frenchman Alexandre Plerre, 33, were all arrested for drunk driving. Patong Police noted the time and date of the arrests as about 1:30am yesterday (Mar 19).
In Wichit, 22-year-old Russian national Marina Mrodnikova was arrested at the Beehive Boutique Hotel on Chao Fa West Rd at about 11:30pm on Monday for soliciting and prostitution.
Police also arrested a 36-year-old Russian man at a restaurant in Moo 1, Kathu, at about 7pm on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, police entered the restaurant to find the man, not named in the report, preparing food in the kitchen.
His work permit allowed him to operate a business, provide advice and guidance, provide management and development services regarding online marketing and marketing promotions and other services, police noted.
However, a QR code for payment was found on a dining table inside the restaurant, with the account to be paid in the Russian man’s name.
The man was then “invited” to Kathu Police Station, where he was charged with “being a foreigner working without a work permit or work other than what you have the right to do”.
In addition to the arrest of British national Stephen Mulladay, 45, in Karon on drugs charges, the flurry of arrest reports included two Russians being fined by Tha Chatchai Police for not wearing helmets while riding motorbikes across the bridge into Phuket.
Tha Chatchai Police also marked the arrest of Myanmar national Mrs Maw Lwin for illegally staying in the country, and Myanmar national ‘Ms SAPAL’ for working illegally.
Thalang Police reported fining five foreigners for "driving without a driver’s license": Ukrainian national Mrivan Osadchyi; British national Paul David; Frenchman Yves Rene Guy Boyer; and Russian nationals Aleksandr Naletov and Mrivan Viktorovimch.
