The directive came during a high-level provincial meeting led by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat at Phuket Provincial Hall this morning (July 1).

Governor Sophon stressed the importance of ensuring all government offices, public parks and nearby areas are regularly checked for old, abandoned cars and motorbikes, which could pose a security threat if left unattended.

He also urged all management agencies to install CCTV systems in their areas to strengthen safety measures.

“All agencies must take this seriously,” Governor Sophon said. “We need to ensure the security of our buildings and public spaces to protect our people.”

Beyond security, the meeting also focused on key administrative priorities, including expediting budget disbursements and improving basic public utilities to enhance the quality of life for residents.

Governor Sophon thanked Phuket City Municipality for its efforts to manage waste at the city’s landfill site. Officials are currently using bio-fermented water to help control and reduce foul odours from the landfill, providing some relief to nearby communities.

On the issue of wastewater management, it was reported that nine local administrative organisations (OrBorTor and municipalities) have committed to setting up proper wastewater treatment systems. The system designs are being provided by a Chinese company, with five designs already completed, said an official report of the meeting.

Governor Sophon also ordered the Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DDPM Phuket) to continue monitoring the current heavy rains and flood risks, and to keep the public informed with timely updates.

Additionally, all district chiefs were instructed to keep track of the number of foreign workers and residents living in their respective areas.

The meeting provided updates on the registration and ID processes for non-Thai nationals, including foreign workers from four nationalities and their dependents.

From June 16-27 this year, a total of 1,011 people were registered under the Cabinet’s approved scheme. Separately, from June 2-27, a total of 10 workers involved in the marine fishing industry also completed their ID card renewals.

The meeting concluded with a review of the province’s budget disbursement, which currently stands at 74.2% for the 2025 fiscal year, as of June 25.
