PHUKET: Phuket MPs Chalermpong Saengdee and Thitikan Thitipruethikul have called on the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to investigate the financial dealings of the private foundation that operates the Big Buddha viewpoint.

PHUKET: The Abbott of Wat Kata and the local residents still living in the shadow of the deadly landslide below the Big Buddha Viewpoint that struck in August last year have both yet to agree on a set of conditions set out by Phuket branch of Royal Forest Department (RFD Phuket) ‒ which legally owns the land the Big Buddha sits on ‒ in order for teh Big BUddha Viewpoint to reopen to tourists.

PHUKET: The popular Big Buddha viewpoint atop the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata is preparing to reopen to the public, with the operator of the site, the Phraphutthamingmongkhol Sattha 45 Foundation, claiming to have reached a “settlement” with the Phuket office of the Royal Forest Department (RFD Phuket) in a long-running land encroachment dispute.

PHUKET: Illegal construction at the Big Buddha viewpoint is no longer considered a primary cause of the deadly landslide in Kata in August last year, which killed 13 people, and does not meet the criteria for a negligence charge, Pol Lt Col Ekkasak Kwanwan, Senior Inspector (Investigation) at Karon Police Station, has told The Phuket News.
