The three-day festival was officially launched on Monday (Feb 10), with a vibrant opening ceremony at the central stage in front of the municipality office.

The event was presided over by Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai, welcomed by Kathu Mayor Wannayut Suttikul and Kathu District Chief Akkarapol Suttirak Chit-Supapat, along with local officials, business representatives and local residents.

In his opening remarks, Phuket Vice Governor Samawit emphasised that the festival aligns with provincial policies to strengthen the grassroots economy and stimulate local spending. He highlighted the event’s role in promoting cultural exchange, economic sustainability, and community well-being.

Mayor Wannayut further outlined the annual festival’s goals, stressing its focus on supporting local entrepreneurs, showcasing cultural heritage and generating income for the community.

To encourage participation, the municipality confirmed that all vendors can set up booths free of charge, ensuring accessibility for small businesses.

The three-day festival, which concludes tonight (Feb 12), features a lively mix of traditional parades, cultural performances, local food showcases and music in the park.

Providing the free concert tonight will be popular Thai rapper P-HOT.

Festivities begin at 5pm.

Beyond entertainment, the Kathu Cultural Street festival plays a vital role in preserving Thai culture, fostering community connections and boosting the local community’s economic growth.

Mayor Wannayu says the event reflects the strong cooperation between government agencies, the private sector and local residents in promoting sustainable development.
